Phase 2 Development.

The Ottawa Muslim Cemetery has experienced an increase in funerals due to an aging population and an increase in population.  The Muslim population in the Ottawa-Gatineau region and surrounding areas continue to grow and it is estimated to be more than 150,000. At the current rate, we are projecting that no more burial lots will be available for sale by the end of 2022.   Furthermore, the demand for burial lots has also increased due to more awareness of the Muslim cemetery.   This has led to an increase in an overall demand to purchase burial lots in advance, thus reducing the amount of burial lots available at time of death.

Purchasing burial lots

As a precautionary measure we have stopped pre-selling burial lots so that lots will be available for those in need on an immediate basis.   This measure will be in place until the end of 2022.

 This is why it is urgent to complete the phase 2 expansion of the Ottawa Muslim cemetery. The planning phase is completed and construction is expected to begin in the fall of     2021.  Completion of Phase 2 is expected by the end of 2022.
