Available After a Loved One Passes

Losing a loved one is never easy. Understanding the government benefits and Islamic guidance available after death can help ease the burden and guide you through this difficult time.

Islamic Benefits

Deeds that benefit the deceased after they are gone

Islam teaches that while most deeds cease upon death, certain ongoing acts continue to benefit the deceased. These are among the most meaningful things the living can do for those who have passed.

Sadaqah Jariyah — Continuing Charity

Donating to causes such as the Ottawa Muslim Cemetery expansion on behalf of the deceased is a powerful form of Sadaqah Jariyah. Every Muslim buried through your donation becomes an ongoing source of reward for you.

Beneficial Knowledge

Knowledge that the deceased shared, taught, or funded — whether Islamic education, useful skills, or community guidance — continues to benefit them as long as it is acted upon.

Du'a from a Righteous Child

The supplication of a righteous child for their deceased parent is accepted by Allah. This is one of the greatest ongoing gifts a parent can leave — raising children who will remember them in their prayers.

"When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them.
